From the President
In Memoriam:
Todd Reed 1967 – 2010
Each and every employee has been vital to the success and growth of Slice of Stainless. But none of it would have been possible without the vision and passion of our company co-founder Todd Reed.
Todd was a visionary with an impenetrable drive to succeed. He knew there was a sufficient demand for small, quantity orders of specialty stainless steel cut to specification. So when his boss at a large metal supplier passed on the idea, Todd and Robin Tackett decided to venture out on their own.
They started Slice of Stainless out of a two-bedroom home in 1992, using money from the sale of Todd's motorcycle to buy their first sheets of steel. Todd's drive to see Slice of Stainless succeed was so strong he took on a second job delivering pizzas at night to help pay the bills.
"A customer's problem is our problem"
Todd recognized the key to a company's success was going above and beyond customer expectations. One way Slice of Stainless has always shown its commitment to customers is by shipping out orders on the same day they are received. When Slice of Stainless was a two-person operation, this required Todd to drive to the supplier to get the material and head back to the shop to cut it before rushing off to the semi-terminal for it to be shipped out the same day.
No matter how demanding the need, Todd would literally drop everything to satisfy a customer. Because Slice of Stainless continues to take this approach toward customer service, our clients have a level of confidence and trust in us rarely seen in our industry.
Treating Employees like Family and Giving Back
Todd treated his employees with a level of respect and compassion not typically found in the workplace. Along with Robin, Todd viewed the Slice of Stainless staff as an extension of their personal family. While Todd expected employees to perform at a high level of quality and customer service, he always tried to be accommodating in helping his staff resolve any personal problems they might be dealing with at home.
Todd was also passionate about giving back to his alma mater, Live Oaks Vocational School. He was a firm believer in giving kids viewed as the underdog a chance to shine, hiring more than a dozen Live Oaks graduates over the years.
