What is Stainless Steel?
Stainless steel is essentially a low carbon steel which contains chromium at 10% or more by weight. It is this addition of chromium that gives the steel its unique stainless, corrosion-resisting properties.

Families of Stainless Steel
There are five families of stainless steel: ferritic, martensitic, austenitic, duplex, and precipitation hardening. These names are derived from the crystal structure of the steels, which determines their metallurgical behavior.

Markets by Grade
Stainless steel plate is a flat rolled product that is 10 inches (254 mm) and over in width, 0.1875 inches (4.

Stainless Steel Specifications by Grade
304 - Chromium-Nickel austenitic alloy used in a wide range of applications. 304L - Chromium-Nickel austenitic alloy used in a wide range of applications.

Welding Stainless Steel
Nickel (plus carbon, manganese, and nitrogen) promotes the formation of austenite, and chromium (plus silicon, molybdenum, and niobium) encourages the formation of ferrite so the structure of weld in stainless steels can be largely predicted on the basis of their chemical composition. Because of their different microstructures, the alloy groups have both different welding characteristics and susceptibility to defects.

What is Nickel Alloy?
Nickel, long used as an alloying element in thousands of alloys, is produced by a wide range of companies worldwide. It has an excellent track record for providing corrosion resistance, high strength at high temperatures, and aesthetic beauty in a wide range of applications.

Nickel Markets by Grade
GRADE A600 NICKEL Description: Oxidation resistance at high temperatures. Applications: Furnace components, Chemical and food processing, Nuclear engineering.

Nickel Specifications by Grade
NA High Temp Designed to provide unique strength and/or corrosion properties at elevated temperatures. Properties such as high strength, high creep resistance, resistance to softening, or resistance to metal loss at high temperatures from oxidation, sulfidation, or carburization are present.

Welding Nickel Alloy
High-quality joints are readily produced in nickel alloys by conventional welding processes. However, some of the characteristics of nickel alloys necessitate the use of somewhat different techniques than those used for commonly encountered materials such as carbon and stainless steels.

Selecting the Proper Grade of Stainless Steel & Nickel Alloy
The first and most important step toward successful use of stainless steel or nickel alloy is selection of the proper type for the application. Stainless steels and nickel alloys include a large number of standard types, but these types differ greatly from one another in composition, corrosion resistance, physical properties, and mechanical properties, and selection of the optimum type for a specific application is the key to satisfactory performance at a minimum total cost.

Why Stainless Steel?
Stainless steel plays a significant role in the quality of life today. For homes, food, sports, hobbies or the environment, stainless steel has become a commonly used material.

Stainless Steel Overview: Features & Benefits
Slice wants to help you understand the stainless steel industry. This guide will help you understand the features and benefits of stainless steel.

High Temperature Properties
Stainless steels have good strength and good resistance to corrosion and oxidation at elevated temperatures. Stainless steels are used at temperatures up to 1700° F for 304 and 316 and up to 2000 F for the high temperature stainless grade 309(S) and up to 2100° F for 310(S).

Hygienic Nature of Stainless Steel
Biological cleanliness increasingly has become more important, particularly with kitchen appliances, countertops and cabinet facings. Pathogens, or carriers of disease such as bacteria or a virus, can cause hundreds of thousands of cases of food borne illness annually.
