Why Stainless Steel?
Stainless steel plays a significant role in the quality of life today. For homes, food, sports, hobbies or the environment, stainless steel has become a commonly used material. It offers durability, cost effectiveness and low maintenance.
The common characteristic of stainless steel is that it does not require an additional protective coating. The chromium present in the stainless steel creates a colorless, transparent layer of oxidation protecting it from corrosion. If the layer should be damaged, it repairs itself with the help of some water and naturally occurring oxygen in the air.
Stainless steel ensures functionality in its most beautiful form. Stainless steel in the home set against wood, natural stone or textile creates interesting accents. It is perfectly integrated for use in kitchen design and bathrooms.
In the preparation of food products, stainless steel is a given. Its surface is so smooth that microorganisms are unable to anchor themselves. It is also the ideal material for storing food products containing acids or salts.
Today the freedom to be active in our free time is an important quality of life factor. Sporting goods and facilities need to be durable, robust and easy to maintain. Whoever enjoys golf, swimming, and al fresco dining surely will have noticed the golf clubs, pool equipment (even pools!), and outdoor kitchens made out of stainless steel.
The demand for stainless steel continues to grow as its economic, ecological and aesthetic qualities become more widely appreciated.
Stainless steel is natural. It is made from minerals of the earth, which are neither in short supply nor synthetic. It is also non-toxic; hence, its use in medical implants. But the most outstanding green characteristic of stainless steel is that it is 100% recyclable. Because stainless steel doesn't rust or deteriorate, most stainless steel products are made from recycled scrap and had previous lives.
Why is Stainless Steel Stainless?
Because stainless steel contains chromium, it produces a chromium rich oxide film on the surface. While this extremely thin film is invisible to the naked eye, it is in fact not porous and prevents the stainless steel surface from reacting with the atmosphere. The film allows the natural brightness of stainless steel to shine through but, if minor scratches occur, it has the ability to self-heal and return to its initial state almost instantaneously. This film protection is why stainless steel is one of the most hygienic and durable materials available. (Note: Information shared by sensationalstainless.com)
